Basis
Our principles
Founded in 2017 by Arzu Gamze Kılınç and Muhammet Uzuner, Cihangir Atölye Sahnesi is a theater, education, and living space that centers on the urge to play and acting as a developable skill.
CAS perceives theater not only as a space for staging plays, but also as a shared life experience and learning space.
Believing that theater should be nourished from its own source, CAS bases its educational model on the master-apprentice tradition while also viewing theater as a space of freedom that allows individuals to realize their own potential.
At CAS, all people are equal.
Everyone contributes to production according to their knowledge and experience.
Knowledge and experience do not make anyone more or less valuable as a human being.
In life at CAS or in any of its productions, there can be no discrimination based on
gender, race, language, or religion.
CAS values collective thought and behavior.
Regardless of their level of talent and knowledge, those who cannot develop collective behavior may not be happy at CAS.
CAS does not place theater production and the acting profession at the forefront of life. These are grounds for research to become a more aware human being.
It strongly rejects the sanctification of art and those involved in artistic production.
CAS advocates that theater should be a collaborative effort between the audience and the stage.
This concept is an artistic approach that fundamentally defines the way theater is made; it opposes a theatrical practice that looks down on the audience,
blames them for their shortcomings, and relegates the joy and spirit of play to the background.
For CAS, a theater that takes every word it says to the audience upon itself as theater and theater workers, does not turn its back on society and social events,
and questions the consistency between the theater produced and the way it is produced is of vital importance.
CAS's production method is reflected in its educational policy as well as its daily life. All forms of production are merely a part of life experienced through this perspective, and this consistency must be visible both in life and in production.
CAS demands that all students, actors, and those working in every field be inquisitive. It considers this an important condition for development and for not distancing oneself through self-control.
