CAS CONSERVATORY DIRECTIVE
1) Cihangir Atölye Sahnesi (CAS) Conservatory (full scholarship) is free of charge.
2) In exchange for this scholarship, the student has no obligations or responsibilities other than attending classes and achieving academic success, including after graduation.
DURATION OF STUDY, COURSES, EXAMS, AND GRADING SYSTEM
3) The conservatory program lasts for three academic years, consisting of six semesters. Each academic year begins in September-October and ends in May-June. The start and end dates of the academic year are announced separately each year.
4) Students take a total of 1890 hours of classes over three years. The school administration may change class hours and days.
5) There is no repeating a class at the CAS Conservatory. Each year or semester is a threshold. Students who fail any of the acting classes during the three-year education cannot repeat the class and their affiliation with the conservatory is completely and permanently terminated.
6) If the reason for failing a course is absenteeism, the student's school affiliation is terminated regardless of the course. If the reason for failing is not getting a sufficient grade, the student is given one more chance the following year for courses other than acting courses, and a special midterm and final exam is administered to that student. If the student fails this exam, their school affiliation is terminated.
7) For annual courses lasting two semesters, at least two midterm exams and a final exam are administered; for semester-long courses, two midterm exams and a final exam are administered within the semester. Students who fail the final exam take a make-up exam.
8) For a student to be considered successful in a course, they must achieve an average of at least 60 grades out of 100 and get at least 60 grades in the final or make-up exam.
9) The arithmetic average of the midterm exam grades (40%) and the final or make-up exam grade (60%) constitute the grade average for that course.
10) It is mandatory to get at least 60 grades in the final or make-up exam. Students who get grades below 60 fail the course, regardless of their midterm average.
11) All exams for courses other than acting courses are held by the course instructor. The final exam for acting courses is held as a jury exam at the end of each year (or at the end of the semester if the course is semester-long). The jury consists solely of the instructors of the acting courses. In the jury exam, each instructor gives their own grade, and the arithmetic average of these grades constitutes the student's final exam grade. Students who do not pass the jury exam take a make-up exam. Students who do not pass the make-up exam are considered to have failed the acting courses and their enrollment at the school is terminated.
12) To be able to take final exams, it is mandatory to take at least one midterm exam for semester-long and/or annual courses. Students who are unable to take the final exam retain the right to take make-up exam.
13) At the CAS Conservatory, the content and method of instruction of courses are determined by the instructor. The instructor may administer written or oral exams as often as they deem necessary to form an opinion or for any other reason, or may assign seminars, assignments, etc.
ABSENTEEISM
14) Students who fail a course due to absenteeism in any of the annual or semester courses during their three-year education cannot continue their education and their enrollment at the school is terminated.
15) Attendance of 80% is mandatory. Students with more than 20% absenteeism are considered to have failed the course and their enrollment at the school is terminated.
16) Regardless of their overall attendance status, students who miss more than 20% of the total class hours for any individual course will be considered to have failed that course due to absenteeism and will be dismissed from the school.
17) At the CAS Conservatory, attention is paid to ensuring that classes are not missed for any reason. If an instructor is unable to attend class for any reason, another instructor may substitute for them. Students who do not attend class are considered absent from the class announced in the previously announced schedule, and their absence is recorded for the class.
18) Each student is responsible for arriving to classes on time. The instructor of the class has the discretion to allow a student who arrives late to participate in the class.
JUSTIFICATION
19) Students who are unable to attend either a midterm or final exam have the right to take a make-up exam. Students who are unable to take the exam are required to report their excuse and provide documentation. Students who cannot provide documentation for their excuse for a midterm exam cannot take the final exam and are considered to have failed the course. If the failed course is an acting course, the student's enrollment at the school will be terminated.
20) Students wishing to take a make-up exam must submit their excuse to the school secretariat within 5 workdays. Excuse requests submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
21) The make-up exam will be held at a place and time deemed appropriate by the instructor of the relevant course.
22) The acceptance of excuses for students who cannot attend school for a period of time due to compelling reasons (traffic accidents, family issues, health problems, vital necessities, etc.) is subject to the decision of the school administration. If the excuse is accepted, the classes the student missed will not be considered absences.
23) Excuses without documentation will not be considered.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE
24) Students who wish to take a break from their studies for health, military service, or family issues and wish to freeze their registration must submit a written request to the school administration within one month of the start of the semester, after completing their final registration and providing documentation of their reasons.
25) For requests to freeze enrollment deemed acceptable by the conservatory administration, enrollment may be frozen for a minimum of one semester and a maximum of two semesters (one academic year). Periods of enrollment freeze do not count toward the duration of study.
26) Students wishing to freeze their registration must submit a written request stating the number of semesters they wish to freeze their registration, along with documents explaining the reasons for freezing their registration, to the conservatory administration in person or by mail within one month of the start of classes.
27) Since the CAS Conservatory holds exams every two years, students must wait for the academic period depending on the class and semester in which they suspended their registration.
GRADUATION PRODUCTION
28) Third-year students work on at least one graduation play to be performed at the end of the year. The graduation play is rehearsed during the PLAY class hours in the course schedule and is performed on a date corresponding to the time before the graduation exam. Students are subject to the same attendance, exam, and grading system in this class as in other classes.
29) All students are supposed to participate in any additional classes or workshops scheduled by the school administration during weekly class hours, and the attendance rules apply to these classes as well.
GRADUATION
30) To graduate from the CAS Conservatory, students must successfully complete all courses over three academic years consisting of six semesters. The graduation exam (third-year acting final exam) is conducted by a jury consists of acting instructors. The format and content of this exam are determined by the jury. The student's effort and success in the graduation play directly affect the outcome of the graduation exam.
31) Students who fail the graduation exam take a make-up exam. Their effort and success in the graduation play they participated in, along with their stage performance in the make-up exam, are evaluated together to determine their graduation grade.
32) Students who fail three courses at most in their third year, the graduation year, are given the right to take an additional exam for each of the three courses, including acting courses.
33) Graduating students are awarded a CAS CONSERVATORY GRADUATION CERTIFICATE.
34) Graduating actors also gain the right to participate in the assistant and trainee instructor programs in all CAS workshops, based on the idea that the theater should be supported by its own resources and to enable the professional development of its graduates.
